DITA CRATE
Timeline: December 2021 (1 week)
Focus: Design for CNC • CNC Programming
This crate was designed to practice design for CNC, programming profile and pocket cuts, and wood finishing. Fingertip tenons are used to join each edge of the crate together – and are positioned such that there are no internal right angles in the design. The form of the joinery is inspired by the familiar oval handhold in other milk crates.
I made these crates to fit into the shelving in my closet. The insides of the crates are colored for differentiation, and joinery was designed to let air through the bottom of the crate and prevent clothes from getting too stuffy.
